About LASIK

When it comes to performing LASIK surgery for clearer vision without the use of contacts or glasses, Dr. Kristin Held has extensive, skilled experience. Approved by the FDA since 1999, this popular laser vision correction surgery can reduce or completely eliminate myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism by precisely changing the shape of the cornea. This technique allows Dr. Held to help light land correctly on your retina. Patients love LASIK surgery because we can complete it very quickly, and it provides lasting results. In fact, many patients who have LASIK can experience clear vision almost right away without needing glasses or contacts. Dr. Held has been performing LASIK for over 20 years at Alamo Laser Vision, a state-of-the art laser facility she co-founded in 1999. At Eye Surgeon Direct, Dr. Held wants everybody to achieve their best vision. Please schedule a visit at our San Antonio, TX eye clinic for a LASIK consultation.

What to expect from LASIK Surgery

Thanks to advancements in LASIK, more and more patients qualify for this procedure. Before undergoing this treatment, patients must be at least 18 years old and have ample corneal thickness. In some cases, because of disease, you may not be a good candidate for LASIK. If so, photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) may work better.

At Eye Surgeon Direct, LASIK is a quick and precise vision correction procedure. Typically, the surgery takes around 10 minutes to complete. During LASIK, Dr. Held numbs the eyes with drops, places an eye speculum to prevent blinking, uses a laser to create a thin corneal flap, folds the flap back to recontour the corneal tissue, and lays the corneal flap back into place. After the procedure, patients should go home and try to sleep for a few hours and avoid rubbing the eyes as the anesthetic wears off. At first, you will notice hazy vision for 24 hours, but this will subside on its own. Overall, it may take around 4 – 6 months before you fully heal, and you may experience spells of light sensitivity, fuzzy vision, and halos. Before leaving our office, we will provide detailed aftercare instructions and schedule your follow-up visits.

Long-Term Clear Vision Today

Remarkable advancements in LASIK technology have given many new patients a chance to undergo laser refractive surgery. If a previous ophthalmologist mentioned that LASIK won't work well for you, please schedule a consultation at Eye Surgeon Direct to determine if that is still the case. Those who aren't good candidates for LASIK may qualify for another refractive surgery option, such as PRK. We are happy to give our San Antonio, TX patients their most precise eyesight.
